School Holiday Camps 2018

AUTUMN CAMP - 23 & 24 April, 9am-3pm daily.  

SPRING CAMP - 8,9 & 10 October, 9am-3pm daily =FULL & NOW WAITLISTING=  

VENUE: Dance Wanaka studios, 19 Cliff Wilson St, Wanaka.

AGES:  5-12yrs  (participants split into junior & elementary age groups once enrolments submitted)  

A school holiday programme actioned packed full of dance, music & art. This fun filled camp is perfect for young enthusiastic dancers & those with creative flair. Shaping up to include Modern Jazz, Classical Ballet, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Drama (Spring only), Applied Art Workshops, and conclude with a fun display to parents & friends. We have a fantastic line up of talented tutors for the kids to enjoy!

Ideal for young performers with or without experience. Past participants have come from West Coast, Dunedin, Omarama, Cromwell & Te Anau to get their dance & drama fix! So everyone is welcome, but be in quick as we offer 30 spaces only. 

FEE: $100 (3 days) or $80 (2 days).  Fee includes art resources.

TUTORS:

Anna Thomas (Dance Tutor) - Anna tutors Classical, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap & Musical theatre in the school.  She is official Camp Mum at our camps. See more here

Cecilia Gardner (Dance Tutor) - Cece is a busy senior dancer in the school & enjoys tutoring weekly jazz & musical theatre classes. 

Holly Gibson (Dance Tutor) - Holly is a very active dancer who loves teaching Hip Hop to junior dances & sharing her love of dance.

Sylvia Duff (Spring Drama Tutor) - Sylvia oozes with energy and inspires young minds. She is fully NZ Registered Teacher & has extensive experience teaching drama across Primary and Secondary schools in the Otago region.  She officially escorted NZ Young Shakespeare Players to the Globe, London 2008; is an experienced Speech and Drama/Public Speaking Teacher; Trinity and New Zealand Speech Board member; Directed Musicals and Drama/Devised Drama in Schools and for adult Theatrical Societies; Director of Hawea Flat School’s Musical ‘Sir Ed You’re A Legend’ (2013), The Pied Piper (2015) & Blast Off (2017).

Melanie Phillopson (Autumn Clay/Art Tutor) - Melanie is an active working potter/ceramic artist from Hawea with more than 20 years experience in the arts field. She currently works as a sole trader under my maiden name of, Melanie dos Remedios. She works from a backyard studio at my residence in Lake Hawea near Wanaka, selling ceramics locally and overseas. She recently was invited to sell her ceramics at the exclusive homeware store, Folklore, in Clyde. And presently she is working on a body of work for the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts (NZAFA), Wellington.

WHAT TO BRING:   

What to wear: Exercise/dance clothing & casual clothes for art workshops 

Food: named drink bottle, morning tea snacks & packed lunch. 

Shoes: bring sneakers for Hip Hop, ballet or jazz shoes (or thin socks).  Appropriate footwear for the playground at lunchtime.

Drama prop needed: bring your gumboots

  • The above schedule is a guideline only at this stage & sample only.  It is subject to change in accordance to confirmed enrolments & ability levels
  • Dancers who tire throughout the morning, are welcome to rest or watch.
  • Focus will be on having fun learning a variety of dance styles, rather than technique/correction
  • Adult supervision will be guaranteed throughout the morning & breaks.  Safety & well being of dancers will be of high priority.
  • Please inform us of any medication, health or food concerns in advance.
