Contemporary dance technique includes elements of modern and the classical ballet technique & for the more mature student. It is characterised by its versatility and allows a greater range and fluidity of movement than conventional dance techniques. The technique seeks to work with the natural alignment of the body (often more parralel), and is therefore safe and accessible for beginners. At the same time, the ease of movement promoted by contemporary dance technique allows experienced dancers to push new boundaries of body movement.

Our classes start from 10+ years. Dancers need to have a good understanding of their spine & core strength (hence later starting age).

We teach an New Zealand examination based syllabus "Lucidity" to older levels.  Lucidity provides each student with solid technical training, performance training, and the platform to create, achieve and grow as a dancer and artist. It is a stimulating and dynamic dance curriculum which explores emotional connection.

Technical aspects include; controlled leg work, torso contract-release, floor work - fall and recovery.  Unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed and direction are incorporated.
