Assessment Schedule 2025

Here are the timetables for APDA Jazz, Ballet (La Beaute), Contemporary, Hip Hop & Tap assessments this year.  BBOdance & graded/major ballet exams are scheduled for Term 3 (15&16 September).

Location for all Mock & Final Assessments are our Dance Wanaka Studios, Aspiring Studio 1, 19 Cliff Wilson Street, Wanaka.

MOCK ASSESSMENTS

Completed 28 May to 6 June.

Mock Assessments are compulsory & hugely beneficial to rehearse assessment protocols (below) & ensure polished, fast & smooth examinations. Dancers receive written feedback on their knowledge of work, performance & dress standard.

All students MUST arrive 15mins before the start time to get ready, so you are prepared & we can keep on schedule.  See further down page for Assessment Protocols, Marking & Policies below for uniform requirements.

ASSESSMENT PROTOCOLS :

Candidate Preparation:

  • JAZZ & TAP UNIFORM = view here
  • BALLET UNIFORM = view here
  • CONTEMPORARY UNIFORM = view here
  • HIP HOP UNIFORM = view here
  • HAIR = must be well groomed, neat, secured back and off face. Girls long hair in a bun (Ballet or Jazz) or french braided (jazz, contemporary or hip hop). No wispy bits – please use lots of hairspray and bobby pin grips! Fringes are acceptable but must be clear of the eyes. Senior jazz & contemporary students must have their plaits tucked or in a bun - so secure for turns.
  • OTHER 
    • No jewellery - incl watches, stud earrings only, nail polish, stick on tattoos please.
    • Any underwear worn should not be seen from beneath uniform (incl bra straps).  Black crop tops can be purchased from shop.
    • Candidates will wear numbers on the front & back of their singlet.
    • light make up is permitted for senior students only (not compulsory) 

Examination room:

  • Candidates enter the room briskly, stand in their positions and greet the examiner - "Good morning or Good afternoon (examiners name here) "
  • Transitions to starting positions should be made quickly & silently
  • Students may ask a question by raising their hand
  • Students must be able to count themselves in with the music. 
  • Candidates must move back to the centre of the room at the completion of the examination for a bow & to thank the examiner
  • If a candidate does not conduct themselves in the appropriate manner during an examination, the examiner has the right to instruct the candidate to leave the room
  • Medication = inhalers & medical requirements are permitted in the examination room 
  • A box of tissues will be available in the examination room for candidates with winter colds
  • Fluids & towels = water bottles, knee pads and towels are permitted in the examination room for students Elementary & upwards
  • Bathroom = students should use the bathroom before entering the examination room & preferably not while the examination is in progress.  This creates time delays.
  • Mirrors and waiting room windows will be covered
  • The examiner will be sitting at a table in the front of the room 

ASSESSMENT MARKING

ASSESSMENT criteria = Dancers who are new to assessments are marked under Medal Test criteria & awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze.

EXAMINATION criteria = Dancers receive results based on the following marks:

50-55.5 = Pass

66-75.5 = Commended

76-85.5 = Highly Commended

86-95.5 = Honours

96-100 = Honours with Distinction

 

APDA Covid-19 Examination Policy :

Asia Pacific Dance Association is fully committed to examinations and will be adaptable to ensure examinations happen again. 
The following policies apply for refunds, credits and unforeseen circumstances:

  • If our school is shut down during your examination dates, APDA will work with us to postpone our examinations.
  • If examinations are deferred to a new date and a student has a legitimate reason for being unable to sit their examination on the new date, they will receive a credit for their next examination.
  • Candidates who are unable to sit examinations due to sickness or injury, their teacher can apply for a medical refund through the existing procedure online. 
  • If a studio chooses to cancel their examinations (for any reason), instead of postponing examinations, refunds do not apply.
  • If APDA cancels your examinations, candidates will receive a full refund.
